Just in case…

….your two-year-old sticks your Costco card in the optical drive of your computer, here’s how to fix it.

Yes, this morning Irelynd was pretening she was shopping at Costco and stuck my Costco card in the disc drive of my laptop.  The card got sucked right in like a cd.  After freaking out for a second, I desperately pushed the eject button over and over hoping it would magically eject like a cd.  Of course it didn’t.   I tilted it to the side and shook it, hoping it would slide out…no luck.  So I swallowed my pride and called Apple technical support.  After giving the woman all my information, she asks me “how can I help you today?”  I told her not to laugh and that she has probably never “heard this one before.”  She said she has heard “everything” and to “try me.”  So I told her what happened; and after her fit of hysterical laughter had ended, she said, “you’re right, I had not heard that one before!”   So we tried a few things and when they all failed to eject the card, she told me to simply shut the computer down, tilt it, and see if the card would just slide out.  Sure enough, it slid right out once the computer was shut down.  The funniest part of the whole thing was at the end of the conversation she asked me “how bad did you hurt your two-year-old?”   I reassured her that my two-year-old was perfectly fine.  She just won’t ever get to pretend she’s shopping at Costco again!!

So there you have it….how to remove a Costco card from a laptop optical drive.  You’re welcome.
