What is Success?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Kari @ 11:57 pm

With a daily struggle to feel successful in this life, I am grateful for these humbling words:

To laugh often and much;

To win the respect of intelligent people, and the affection of children;

To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;

To appreciate beauty;

To find the best in others;

To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;

To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived;

This is to have succeeded.

Ok Jody, I’ve found a trip for all us girls to go on next year.

Check out blogher2501.gif a site “where the women bloggers are.” :-) Better yet, look where the conference location will be held for ’07. What fun we could have!! You’ve gotta know I’m kind of kidding…but it might just be a good time?!

Pool Party

Filed under: Uncategorized — Kari @ 9:03 pm

Today Irelynd and I attended a pool party at a neighbor’s house. Irelynd met a lot of new friends, swam, and ate a TON of snacks.  She hung out most of the time with the “big kids” at the snack table.  I had to make her leave the table when she started mixing her teddy grahams and apple juice into the bowl of watermelon.  Yummy!

Bragging Rights

Since some of you have been asking…I want to take a few minutes to brag about a friend.

Jon and I have an extremely talented friend, Caleb Stine. Our relationship with Caleb goes back many years, and we have all shared many memories together.

Caleb has always been an incredible musician. I can remember back to high school when Caleb and Jim (another talented friend…we have lots of them) :-) would play at several local coffee shops. Each night they played, the shops would be packed out the door with a diverse crowd of both young and old. Caleb’s music has always had a unique way of drawing people in through earnest lyrics and lingering melodies. A talent beyond his years, we always knew he would fulfill his musical dreams.

Caleb has now formed, Caleb Stine and the Brakeman. They are currently touring numerous east coast area venues, and we’re hoping to see them soon in Austin :-)

Check out his website, and get your hands on his new cd, October 29th.

We love you Caleb!

On The Anniversary of a Friend Remembered

Filed under: Uncategorized — Kari @ 9:42 pm

Light after darkness, gain after loss,

Strength after weakness, crown after cross;

Sweet after bitter, hope after fears,

Home after wandering, praise after tears.

Sheaves after sowing, sun after rain,

Sight after mystery, peace after pain;

Joy after sorrow, calm after blast,

Rest after weariness, sweet rest at last.

Near after distant, gleam after gloom,

Love after lonliness, life after tomb;

After long agony, rapture of bliss–

Right was the pathway, leading to this.

Afterwards, Frances R. Havergal-

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. There shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying; neither shall there be any more pain for the former things have passed away.
-Rev 21:4 KJV-

I always check on Irelynd before I go to bed…thought I’d take a picture tonight.

Sushi night

Filed under: Uncategorized — Kari @ 10:53 pm

Jon is up in Austin this weekend on a much deserved golf, and fantasy football trip. So after Irelynd had gone to bed…out came the sushi, chocolate-peanut butter balls, and a glass of red wine. I spread it all out on the coffee table, put my feet up, and watched one of my favorite movies. I enjoyed my little night alone so much, I will probably have to do it all over again tomorrow night! Doesn’t take much to please this girl!
